Elsterheide

Elsterheide, Upper Sorbian Halštrowska hola, is the second largest municipality in the district of Bautzen in Saxony.

Geography and transport

The community is located approximately 5 km north- west of Hoyerswerda and is bordered to the north by the state of Brandenburg. Through the district Nardt the B leads 96 and through the district Bluno the B 156 The municipality is located in the Lusatian Lakeland. So are the Neuwieser lake Blunoer South Seas, the Sabrodter lake, Lake Geierswalde, the Bergen lake Partwitz, der Lugt calibration, the Kortitzmühler lake and the Spreetal lake in the municipality. Overall, more than half of today's church territory was changed by brown coal mining. Through the town flows the Schwarze Elster. In the district Nardt there is an airfield. The railway line Knappenrode - Sornoer stalls is exclusively for freight.

History

The district Nardt was " Germanized " in 1936 and was so called until 1945 "Magpie 's Nest". The community Elsterheide was 1 July 1995 from the once independent villages Neuwiese, Sabrodt, Nardt, Small Part joke, Seidewinkel, Tätzschwitz, Bluno and Geierswalde.
