Englewood is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Charlotte County and Sarasota County in the U.S. state of Florida with 14,863 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Englewood is located approximately 33 kilometers west of Punta Gorda at the Lemon Bay, a lagoon on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Through the CDP, which is crossed by the Florida State Road 776 is the boundary between the counties Sarasota and Charlotte. Englewood is located about 120 km south of Tampa.

Religions

In Englewood, there are 31 different churches from 17 different denominations. Among the belonging to a denomination churches the Baptist church is best represented with four churches. There are 4 to no denomination belonging churches ( as of 2004).

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 14,863 inhabitants distributed to 10,942 households. The population density was 582.9 inh. / Km ². 97.1 % of the population were white, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American and 0.7 % Asian Americans. 0.6 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.0% of different ethnicities. 2.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 60.6 % of all households lived in 9.8 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 58.5 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.89 persons and the average family size is 2.34 people.

9.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 8.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.4% were 40-59 years old and 57.6 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 64 years. 47.6 % of the population were male and 52.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 38,433, while 12.2 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.72 % of the population spoke Spanish 2.29% and 2.99 % had a different mother tongue.
