Rotonda is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Charlotte County in the U.S. state of Florida with 8,759 inhabitants ( 2010).
Geography
Rotonda is located in Southwest Florida on the Gulf of Mexico and about 30 km west of Punta Gorda, and about 140 km south of Tampa. The town center and about running around the ring are created circular. From the air the place looks like a giant wheel with spokes.
Demographics
According to the 2010 census, the then 8,759 inhabitants distributed to 6,581 households. The population density was 307.3 inh. / Km ². 97.3 % of the population were white, 1.0% African American, 0.1% Native American and 0.7 % Asian Americans. 0.3 % were members of other ethnic groups and 0.5 % of various ethnicities. 1.9% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 60.0 % of all households lived in 11.9 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 66.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.98 persons and the average family size is 2.38 people.
11.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 8.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 22.8 % were 40-59 years old and 57.3 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 63 years. 47.8 % of the population were male and 52.2 % female.
The average annual income was $ 48,487, while 7.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.84 % of the population spoke Spanish 3.18% and 3.98% had a different mother tongue.
