Eschenbach in der Oberpfalz ( official:. Eschenbach idOPf ) is a city in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab and office of the Management Community Eschenbach.

History

Around 1150 Eschenbach was first mentioned as a market. The Wittelsbach town rule was only interrupted in the 14th century during the membership Neuböhmen 1353-1400. Emperor Charles IV granted the city rights in 1358 Eschenbach. In the 15th century Eschenbach came in Palatine possession and later to the Electorate of Bavaria. The city was the seat of a Pflegamts and belonged to Rentamt Amberg of the Electorate of Bavaria. Eschenbach had a city court magistrate own rights.

Until the municipal reform in the 1970s, the city was seat of the district Eschenbach in der Oberpfalz ( License Plate ESB). A large part of the circular area took the Grafenwoehr Training Area. Parts of the district are now one of Central Franconia (Neuhaus an der Pegnitz ), to the district of Bayreuth, such as the city of Amberg -Sulzbach Auerbach. The majority was incorporated into the district of Neustadt. With the district reform, the city lost the District Office and other authorities.

On 30 June 2012, the Hospital of Clinics Eschenbach Nordoberpfalz AG was closed after over 100 years of activity.

Incorporations

In 1946 the then independent municipality Stegenthumbach and part of the municipality of Thomas Reuth were incorporated. A part of Pichlberg followed on 1 July 1972.

Policy

Until 1972 Eschenbach was county town of the eponymous district, was assigned to the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in the course of municipal reform.

Blazon: Shared and split up; front in black and a red crowned golden lion, rear awakened by silver and blue, below in red a silver fish.

The coat of arms has been known since the 14th century.

Twinning

Sister city in Switzerland is the community Eschenbach in the canton of Lucerne since 1989.

Netzaberg

East of the city center on the Netzaberg created since 2008, a new district: Originally Newtown, integration of reasons, however, was chosen " Netzaberg ". In the first section 830 housing units for U.S. soldiers of the so-called Strykerbrigade were (named after the lightly armed Stryker Radpanzern ) and built their families. Likewise, Newtown gets a kindergarten, a youth center, a sports center, a school and a building for devotions of all religious communities. This is one of the largest construction projects of the Upper Palatinate in recent decades. A total of 200 million euros will be invested in the construction project. Thus, the population Eschenbach is expected to 3,500 soldiers ( with families about 10,500 U.S. citizens ) increase.
