The section between Shannon Airport and Limerick is mostly highway. The section from Limerick to Portlaoise since the end of 2010 highway and signposted as M7 motorway. The section between Portlaoise and Naas is motorway (M7 ), the last section between Naas to Dublin 's turn again Expressway ( N7). There is a ferry service between Dublin and Liverpool.

Denmark

In Denmark, the E20 runs as a motorway from Esbjerg to the Öresund Bridge. The length of the Danish part is 315 km. It runs on the Storebæltsbroen consisting of two each 6 km long parts. The Storebæltsbroen and Oresund Bridge are toll roads, both with more than 30 €. The Öresund bridge is 8 km long and consists of a 4 km long tunnel on the Danish side. The road crosses the border between Denmark and Sweden on the bridge.

Sweden

About the Öresund bridge the E20 leads to Malmö and Lund and dortaus further to the northwest towards Gothenburg. From Gothenburg then leads in a northeasterly direction to Stockholm. There, the Baltic Sea is crossed by ferry. Subsequently, the E20 continues its route in Tallinn.

Estonia and Russia

The last two sections of the E20 pass through Estonia and Russia. The distance from Tallinn to Saint Petersburg is 360 km. The road is mainly an ordinary road, only for the 70 km outside of Tallinn to the Russian border, it is a kind of a national road. The main problem with this route are the Russian border in Iwangorod who are insufficiently equipped for the strong traffic. This is particularly the case for heavy-duty vehicles, which sometimes may have to wait days until they go on, on days with low traffic but it also runs faster. In Russia, the route runs jointly with the Russian highway A180.
