European Trophy

The European Trophy was a European ice hockey tournament for club teams. Following the cancellation of the Champions Hockey League 2009/10 was limited to Scandinavia Nordic Trophy 2010 was extended to the whole of Europe, which the European Trophy was launched. In the first edition was attended by 18 teams from seven nations in the second year, the competition was expanded to 24 and in the third year to 32 teams. As finals of the competition the Red Bulls Salute serves. The fourth and last edition was also held with 32 teams. In the 2014/15 season, the Champions Hockey League is new instead discharged.

Mode

Discharge 2010

The 18 teams were divided into two groups of nine teams. Each team played once against every other team in the group, that came to a total of eight games, half of them at home. Some clubs do not played in their regular home halls, but in smaller halls. The first four teams in each group qualified for the final tournament of the Red Bulls Salute in Salzburg and Zell am See for which the organizer EC Red Bull Salzburg was set. The final tournament was played in the all-in - mode.

Discharge 2011

The 24 teams were divided into four groups of six teams. Each team played once against every other team in the group, and three games came against teams from other groups. Each team came thus to eight games, half of them at home. Addition to the host Red Bulls Salzburg, qualified the four group winners and the three best runners- point for the final tournament Red Bulls Salute to Vienna and Salzburg. The final tournament was played in the all-in - mode.

Discharge 2012

The 32 teams were divided into four groups of eight teams. Each team played here twice against a local rival in its group (outbound and return ) and once each for the other six teams of its group (three home and away games ). So again eight games for each team have been achieved. For the first time fandt the final tournament not held in Salzburg, but in Vienna and the Slovak capital Bratislava. In addition to the two co-hosts Vienna and Bratislava qualified the four group winners and the best runners for the final tournament. The final tournament was played in the all-in - mode.

Discharge 2013

2013, the same teams will play in the same grouping as of 2012. Only the home rights of teams to be replaced. The final tournament will be held in Berlin. For the final tournament for the first time only six teams qualify, in addition to the host Polar Bears Berlin the winners of the four preliminary round groups and the best runner-up.
