2011 European Trophy

The European Trophy 2011 was the second edition of the same competition, which was organized by the participating hockey clubs and partially used for pre-season training. The preliminary round of the tournament was held between 11 August and 6 September 2011. The final tournament of the eight best teams took place from December 16 to 18 under the name Red Bulls Salute in the Austrian cities of Vienna and Salzburg.

At the second discharge was attended by a total of 24 teams from six European nations. A total of ten new teams were added to the European Trophy. For the first time took part in a Representative of Slovakia, but no clubs from Switzerland or from Norway were more involved.

For the juniors in the club the European Trophy Junior Tournament was held in parallel.

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round, which was held between 11 August and 6 October 2011, played the 24 teams in four divisions of six teams. Within each group played each team once against each other, this came three more games against teams from other divisions. For the final tournament Red Bulls Salute, the four winners of the divisions and the three-point best qualified Second; EC Red Bull Salzburg was set to host the final tournament.

Final round

The final round of the eight best teams in the preliminary round was held between 16 and 18 December 2011 under the name Red Bulls Salute in the Austrian city of Salzburg and Vienna. The host EC Red Bull Salzburg was automatically set as one of the eight teams.

The teams first played in the quarterfinals of the participants in the semi-finals from. During the quarter-final loser places 5-8 playing off in the following two days with each other, the winning team determined the tournament winner.

Awards

After each of a total of 108 matches in the competition, the three best players in a game were awarded. The best player of the match was between three points, the second best two and the third best one. The player with the most points at the end of the contest was awarded the European Star Award.
