Fessy

Fessy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Fessy is located on 584 m above sea level. M., 12 km southwest of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Bas -Chablais, a slightly elevated position at the northern foot of the Alps in the area of the pass crossing the Col de Cou.

The area of ​​8:53 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Bas -Chablais and the adjacent foothills. The northern part of the municipal area is located in a wide valley that is drained to Lake Geneva by the Foron and its tributaries to the north. The area ranges in the extensive forests of the Bois de Savigny. To the south of the municipality extends over a first floor gently, later steep slope ( the headwaters of the Ruisseau de la Gorge ) to the wooded ridge of Tête du Char west of the Col de Cou. Here is 1290 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Fessy.

To Fessy include the hamlet settlements Rezi (610 m above sea level. M. ) and Avugnens ( 624 m above sea level. M. ) at the northern foot of the Tête du Char and Les Ruppes ( 800 m above sea level. M. ) at the northwest slope. Neighboring communities of Fessy are Lully in the north, Cervens in the east, Habère -Lullin, Burdignin and Saxel in the south and Brenthonne and Bons- en- Chablais in the West.

Attractions

In the present village church, the choir from the old building from the 15th century is integrated.

Population

With 767 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Fessy one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous strong growth of population was recorded. To the old village around resulted in several single-family house neighborhoods.

Economy and infrastructure

Fessy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the environment or in Thonon -les- Bains.

The village is close to the link road D903, which runs from Saint- Cergues directly to Thonon -les- Bains. Further road links exist with Brenthonne, Cervens and the Col de Cou.
