Field hockey at the 1908 Summer Olympics

In the IV Olympic Games in London in 1908, a competition in hockey (men) was held. He was held to 31 October at the White City Stadium on 29.

At the tournament, four British teams, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, which occupied the first four places at the end, as well as France and Germany involved. The foreign teams proved to be a chance. In the final, England by selling significantly against Ireland. There was no match for 3rd place, which is why Scotland and Wales shared the bronze medal.

One day before the final one additional game between the defeated teams from the continent took place. Both France and Germany had lost in the first round, so that the auxiliary game is often regarded as a game for 5th place. In the official IOC report it is referred to as friendly and evaluated in detail.

Results

Scotland and Germany contested the opening match and thus the first Olympic hockey game in history. The official report states: " The first game started on the lawn in the center of White City Stadium on October 29, at half past three in beautiful weather. "

Team

The German team presented the Uhlenhorster HC (Hamburg), only Elard Dauelsberg came from Eilbeker HC ( Hamburg). The French players came from the club Athletique International, Racing Club de France and Stade Français.
