Fillinges

Fillinges is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Fillinges is located on 557 m above sea level. M., approximately 16 km east-southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is located in the western Faucigny, on a plateau that is bordered by the rivers Menoge and Foron, on the eastern edge of the Arvetals, south of the ridge of Les Voirons.

The area of ​​11.67 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Faucigny. The central part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Fillinges, bounded on the south by Foron in the north of the Menoge. The valleys of the two rivers which join at the western edge of the municipality are sunk 30 meters into the environment. To the southwest the community area reaches into the Arve Valley. North of the Menoge the area on the wooded slopes of Les Voirons extends to the chapel below the summit Le Pralère. Here it is with 1303 m above sea. M. reached the highest elevation of Fillinges. To the east of the municipality ban extends to the foot of the Mont de Vouan.

To Fillinges addition to the actual center includes several hamlets settlements, including:

  • Zonzier ( 533 m above sea level. M. ) on the plateau between the valleys of the Arve and Foron
  • Couvette (520 m above sea level. M. ) on Foron
  • La Plaine (540 m above sea level. M. ) on the plateau between the valleys of Foron and Menoge
  • Arpigny (560 m above sea level. M. ) at the foot of the ridge of Marcellaz
  • Bonnaz ( 585 m above sea level. M. ) on the plateau south of the Foron
  • Le Pont de Fillinges ( 555 m above sea level. M. ) on cross road between two bridges over the Menoge and Foron
  • Chez les Bourguignons (600 m above sea level. M. ) at the western foot of Mont de Vouan
  • Juffly ( 682 m above sea level. M. ) on the southern slopes of Les Voirons
  • Chez Radlet ( 690 m above sea level. M. ) at the entrance of the Vallée Verte
  • Chez Pilloux (740 m above sea level. M. ) on the southern slopes of Les Voirons
  • Mijouet ( 659 m above sea level. M. ) at the entrance of the Vallée Verte

Neighboring communities of Fillinges are Lucinges and Saint -André -de- Boëge in the north, Viuz -en- Sallaz and Marcellaz in the east, and Ayse Contamine -sur -Arve in the south and Nangy and Bonne in the West.

History

The territory of Fillinges was already inhabited during the Neolithic and during the Roman period. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1012 under the name Filennio. Later, the names Fillingiaco, Fillingio ( 1039 ), Filinco ( 1119 ) and Filingium ( 1196) appeared. The name goes back to the Burgundian people Filo name ( short form of Filibertus ) and means as much as the people of the Filo.

In the Middle Ages Fillinges belonged to the field of rule Faucigny. As part of the Dauphiné reached the place in 1349 in France, but was delivered in a country Abtausch to the Counts of Savoy under the Treaty of Paris in 1355. Then Fillinges shared the fate of Savoy.

The village church with a spire was built in the Gothic Revival style.

Population

With 3216 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Fillinges belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s, a continuous increase in population was recorded. Outside of the old village and on the southern slopes of Les Voirons created numerous family house districts.

Economy and infrastructure

Fillinges was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small and medium industry, construction and trade companies. Close to the highway, a larger trade area was created. Many working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Geneva - Annemasse, their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is well developed yet. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of about 4 km. At Le Pont de Fillinges the streets of Annemasse after Taninges and from Arve Valley over the Col de Cou to Thonon -les- Bains cross.
