Four-cross

Four Cross, Biker Cross or Cross Mountain, a mountain bike racing discipline called on a long usually between 150 and 600 meters track. In the race basically take four drivers simultaneously participate in one run. Will be wearing the competition in the knockout system. In each case, the two fastest goal in the next round.

Bikercross was originally derived from the BMX Racing and dual slalom. At the elementary obstacles of Four Cross include jumps, excessive and flat curves, " washboards ", waves and compressions.

Route

A four-cross route is mostly downhill and has riparian curves and jumps on. The riders start from the starting gate on a survey, which is realized in shallow areas by a start hill. A track contains a number of relatively shallow cracks that can be "swallowed " usually. There are different types of jumps such as the Table, Double, Stepup and Step Down which may differ greatly in their length and height depending on the route profile. The curves are outside elevated ( banked corners ), so you can drive through the track at high speed, resulting in a larger obstacle diversity is made possible for the race.

Sports Equipment

The geometry of a biker cross bikes is designed especially for speed, less agility. It must be quiet running, so the wheelbase is slightly longer and the steering angle flat ( below 70 ° ) than in dirt bikes.

The add-on parts is taken mainly on the weight, because a light bike can accelerate easily. However, they also need the necessary stability to go with falls or unclean landings not equal to breakage. Some components, such as seat and circuit frequently the products of our road bike or cross-country area for use.

The suspension fork is quite tight and rather a kind of emergency suspension for improper landings. The spring travel is between 80 mm and 140 mm. For some routes also like full suspension bikes ( Full Suspension ) can be used.

The tires are rather narrow with a maximum of 2.3 inches. This avoids unnecessary friction and excessive weight can be avoided. The profile of the tire depends on the track. On solid and dry soils rather specific 4-cross tires are used, come on loose and wet soils sometimes rather deep-treaded downhill tire with 2.4-2.5 inch used.

Term and variations

The term 4 Cross was introduced by the World cycling body UCI, although the word Bikercross (see boardercross ) was already common. Thus, the UCI was able to secure the full naming rights for its World Cup series. Depending on the driver number one speaks of the Four Cross (also 4 Cross ) or Dual Eliminator, rarely from 6 Cross. In the U.S., there is the concept mountain cross, in England the term Bicycle Supercross (BSX ). For general term Bikercross also includes the dual slalom format, in which the driver but drive on separate, parallel tracks run. 2002 dual slalom was replaced by Four Cross in the Mountain Bike World Cup and at Mountain Bike World Championships. On 22 September 2011, the UCI announced that Four Cross will no longer belong to the World Cup. The reason that high construction costs and the negative impact on the environment of a four-cross track were called.
