Francie Larrieu Smith

Francie Larrieu Smith (born Francis Ann Larrieu; born November 23, 1952 in Palo Alto) is a former American middle and long distance runner. She was the first U.S. athlete to five times qualified for the Olympic Games.

As a 13 -year-old, she started with the running and won in 1970 over 1500 m their first national title. At the Olympic Games in 1972 she left the same distance in the flow. The following year she came at the World Cross Country Championships in Waregem in the 16th place and won with the U.S. team bronze.

In 1975, she presented on March 3 with 4:28,5 min on a world indoor record in the mile run. At the Olympic Games, in 1976 came via 1500 m again not on the first round out, but she won the year after the Athletics World Cup 1977 silver over the same distance.

After a second place at the Columbus Marathon in 1988 she was the London Marathon in 1990 and 1991 respectively as second under 2:30. At the World Cup in 1991 in Tokyo, she did not reach the goal over 10,000 m.

1992 served the Houston Marathon in the women than the U.S. elimination race for the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Francie Larrieu Smith secured a third one of the starting places.
