Frederick Elwyn Jones, Baron Elwyn-Jones
Frederick Elwyn Jones, Baron Elwyn -Jones, of Llanelli in the County of Carmarthen and of Newham in Greater London CH ( born October 24, 1909 in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales; † 4 December 1989) was a British lawyer and politician Labour Party.
Biography
After attending schools in Llanelli and Dyfed, he studied law at Aberystwyth University and the University of Cambridge and began after the lawyer's approval in 1935 to work as a lawyer.
After the end of World War II, he began his political career in the Labour Party and was elected in the elections of July 5, 1945 as a member of the lower house (House of Commons ) and represented there until 1950, the constituency of West Ham - Plaistow Division. In 1945, he also belonged to the legal staff in preparation for the Nuremberg Trials. In the general election of 23 February 1950, he was re-elected lower house deputy and was now to 1974 representatives of the constituency of Newham South.
Elwyn -Jones, who was one of the founders of Amnesty International in 1961, was ( Attorney General ) appointed after the election of the Labour Party at the general election in 1964 by Prime Minister Harold Wilson for Attorney General. In this role, he led in 1966 to the legal team of advisers to investigate the mining disaster in Aberfan. The Office of the Attorney General, he held to the end of Wilson's term of office in June 1970.
After the Labour Party won the general election of 28 February 1974 he was appointed as successor of Quintin Hogg McGarel Lord Chancellor. With his retirement from the House of Commons and his appointment, he was appointed as a life peer in the peerage, bore the title of Baron Elwyn -Jones, of Llanelli in the County of Carmarthen and of Newham in Greater London and as such was also a member of the House of Lords. As Lord Chancellor he was until May 1979 at the office and was in turn succeeded by Quintin Hogg McGarel.
Subsequently, he became a judge at the Court of Appeal for England and Wales ( Lord Justice of Appeal ) and this was until his death in 1989.
