Frotey-lès-Vesoul

Frotey -lès- Vesoul is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté. It belongs to the agglomeration Vesoul.

Geography

Frotey -lès- Vesoul is located at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, approximately 2 km east of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, on the eastern edge of the basin of Vesoul, north of the river Colombine, between the heights of Sabot in the north and in the south of Mont Martine.

The area of ​​7.63 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Vesoul. And is bordered on the west by the region along the rivers Durgeon on the south by its left tributary Colombine. The Durgeon flows through a nearly two kilometers wide alluvial plain, which is on average 220 ​​m. History

The area of Frotey can look back on a long history of settlement. In a cave in the Valley of Colombine remains were found from prehistoric times. Further excavations the remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement site was discovered.

Is first mentioned Frotey in 1238. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Attractions

The village church of Frotey -lès- Vesoul originally dates from the 12th century, but was later changed several times and partially rebuilt. The Château de Frotey was built in the 18th and 19th centuries and was the residence of novelist Xavier de Montépin.

Population

With 1378 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Frotey -lès- Vesoul is one of the medium-sized towns in the Haute- Saône. During the 20th century, the population increased continuously (1901 were counted only 442 people ), the strongest growth was observed during the 1970s. By 1990 the population reached a record level of around 1450 people. Since then, the population has been declining again; it was recorded a decline of about 10%.
