Galina Shamrai

Galina Jakovlevna Schamrai (Russian Галина Яковлевна Шамрай; born October 5, 1931 in Tashkent) is a former Soviet gymnast.

Life

Schamrai graduated from the Lenin Education Institute of the Moscow region and then worked as a coach at Spartak Moscow. She married the Spartakspieler Anatoli Ilyin, of the national football team of the Soviet Union won the gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956. 1958 kamdie daughter Elena was born.

Sports

Initially trained in Shamrai Iskra club, but later moved to Burewestnik sports association to Moscow. Their first competition that represented the national gymnastics championships in 1950, where she managed an eighth place in the individual all-around. In 1952 she was a member of the Soviet team for the Summer Olympics in Helsinki and was there to winning the team all-around. It also won a silver medal in the group gymnastics. In 1956 Shamrai ended her active career and worked from 1975 as a martial judge at various gymnastics events. Today she lives in Moscow.
