Geography

Geographical location

Gauern belongs to Ronneburger agricultural and mining area and is located at Fox creek, a small tributary of the White Elster. The nearest towns are Berga / Elster (5 km southwest), Ronneburg (8 km north), Weida (10 miles west) and Gera (13 km north-west ).

Adjacent communities are Braunichswalde, Linda b. Weida, Seelingstädt and the city of Berga, all located in the district of Greiz. The city of Berga limited only indirectly with the district Wolfersdorf.

History

1363 the village was first mentioned. Until 1918 it belonged to Saxony- Altenburg and was since 1900 the District Office Ronneburg belonging. 1922, went to the county Gera. 1933 Gauern 340 inhabitants. Policy
