Geography

Neighboring communities

Adjacent communities are Bethenhausen, Big Stone, Hirschfeld and Schwaara district Greiz and the 1994 eingemeindeten to Gera communities Cretzschwitz, Dorna and Söllmnitz.

Community structure

The municipality is divided into Brahmenau, desert grove and Zschippach. Brahmenau in turn is formed by the merger took place in the 20th century the then independent municipalities Culm, Waaswitz and Groitschen.

History

On 1 October 1937, the municipalities Groitschen and Waaswitz were incorporated to Culm. The community Culm was finally renamed on 13 November 1937 in Brahmenau. After the Second World War, the desert districts grove and Zschippach were incorporated. The first mention of today belonging to Brahmenau communities are from the 12th century and go back to even older Sorb settlements. After the political changes in 1990, established a construction boom, which can be seen from the population, then the population doubled from 1994 to 1999 almost.

Traffic

Zschippach and Culm had from 1901 to 1969 with a connection to the Gera - Meuselwitz - Wuitzer railroad. Furthermore performs Brahmenau the country road by 1079 Bethenhausen to Gera.
