U 325 was a German U- Boat Type VII C/41 of the Navy in World War II.

History

Construction and commissioning

It was given on 16 July 1942 in order and laid on April 13, 1943 at the Flender -Werke, Lübeck, Kiel on. On March 25, 1944, the launching, on May 6, 1944, the entry into service under the command of Lieutenant Erwin Dohrn.

Until November 30, 1944 drove U 325 as a training boat. During this time, the boat belonged to the 4th U- Flotilla, one stationed in Szczecin Ausbildungsflottille. On December 1, 1944 U 325 of the 11th U- Flotilla was assigned, who belonged to it until its sinking.

Use

From there, the second trip on December 9, 1944, first went to Kristiansand and then from there on 11 December to patrol to the British Isles and the western English Channel off Cherbourg. On February 14 of next year U 325 returned to Norway and ran to Trondheim.

The third and final voyage began on 20 March 1945 in Trondheim and should lead to Land's End.

Downfall

The last contact with U 325 was on 10 April 1945 and included the command to disturb convoy traffic to the south-western peninsula of England around.

With the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht on 8 May 1945 U 325 was performed as operational by the commander of the U- boats.

Discovery

U 325 was missing until the wreck in 2006 twelve nautical miles ( 22 km) north-northwest of Newquay (Cornwall ) in position 50 ° 31 ' N, 5 ° 22' W50.517777777778 - 5.3688888888889 near U 400 and U 1021, was found. All three U- boats sank in the Bristol Channel in the minefield, codenamed Artizan B3, whose first part was set on the morning of April 30, 1945 by the minelayer HMS Plover at a depth of 18 meters. The damage to the wreck (large semi- circular hole ) match a sinking by a mine. None of the 52 crew members survived.

Other identifying features of U 325 were a folding snorkel type 2 with a ring float snorkel head valve and an anti-radar coating ( Jaumann ) to the exhaust.
