Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008

The German preliminary decision to Euro Vision Song Contest 2008 took place on March 6, 2008 at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. The First German Television broadcast the program, which was moderated as the year before by Thomas Hermanns.

The field has been expanded from the previous year, instead of three competed five performers. From the first round of voting the Live Show Carolin Fort Bacher and No Angels emerged as the best finisher.

The second round decided the No Angels with 50.5 % of the vote and thus represented Germany on May 24, 2008 in Belgrade.

Only 3.47 million viewers ( 11.0 % market share) followed the ARD program, in the group of 14-49 year olds there were 1.54 million ( 11.7% market share). That was the lowest number of audience since 1996, when the NDR took over the lead for the preliminary rounds for the song contest.

In the final of the Euro Vision Song Contest 2008 on May 24, 2008 in Belgrade, the No Angels reached 14 points ( points with Poland and the United Kingdom) 23 and thus last place.

Reviews

The FAZ was " ... a total of five posts rather shallow and inconsequential "; Süddeutsche remarked: " The preliminary round is now a home game for the musical mainstream. Eccentrics like Guildo horn would probably have no chance - that's boring and not at all a good thing. "
