Göran Hägglund

Göran Hägglund ( born January 27, 1959 in Degerfor ) is a Swedish politician, party leader Kristdemokraterna and Minister for Health and Social Affairs in the civil government under Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt.

Hägglund began his political career in the Christian Democratic youth organization. Since 1978 he was employed full as ombudsman of the Christian Democratic Party. In 1982 he was elected to the municipal council of Jönköping and stayed there a period until 1986. According to the general election in 1985 he was parliamentary secretary of the Christian Democrats, who presented a deputy with Alf Svensson.

In 1988 he finished his work and worked for an insurance company until he was elected in the 1991 election to the Reichstag. In the Reichstag from 1991 to 2002 he was leader of the Christian Democrats, in 2003, he was elected second vice-chairman of the party. Hägglund has long acted as a preferred successor of longtime party leaders Svensson. However, after the resignation Svensson 2004, he was the deputy party chairman Maria Larsson and former Communications Minister Mats Odell two strong opponent, who could count on greater support from the party organization. Both withdrew their application, however, so that Hägglund was elected on April 3, 2004 unopposed as the new Chairman.

With the joint coalition Alliance for Sweden won the bourgeois camp under the leadership of Fredrik Reinfeldt's choice 2006. Hägglund was appointed on 6 October 2006 to the Minister for Health and Social Affairs.

Hägglund grew up in the Pentecostal movement, but is currently a member of the Church of Sweden. He is married and has two children.
