Granges-Narboz

Granges- Narboz is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Granges- Narboz is located on 842 m above sea level, about four kilometers southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the southern edge of the broad plateaux of Arlier ( Pontarlier - Frasnian ), at the northern foot of the Montagne du Laveron.

The area of ​​16:22 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Arlier, which is on average 820 m. It is partly covered by meadows, partly of moorland and is drained by two short streams northward to channelized Drugeon. To the south, the municipality's area extends over a wooded hillside on the broad ridge of the Montagne du Laveron forming an anticline of the Jura Mountains in geological- tectonic terms. Here the highest elevation of Granges- Narboz is achieved with 1025 m. These plateaus show a loose structure of pasture and forest. There are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

The community Granges- Narboz consists of several hamlets, villages and hamlets, including:

  • Granges- l'Église ( 839 m) at the northern foot of the Montagne du Laveron
  • Granges- lingerie (831 m) at the northern foot of the Montagne du Laveron
  • Granges- Dessus ( 999 m) on the plateau of Montagne du Laveron

Neighboring communities of Granges- Narboz are Chaffois, Houtaud and Pontarlier in the north, La Cluse- et- Mijoux in the east, Oye -et -Pallet and La Planée in the South and Sainte -Colombe in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Granges- Narboz belonged to the rule of Pontarlier. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1999 Granges- Narboz is a member of the comprehensive 10 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Larmont.

Attractions

The village church of Sainte - Brigide in Granges- l'Église was built from 1632 and shows the forms of the flamboyant late-Gothic.

Population

With 984 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Granges- Narboz one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1896 309 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s again. Since then, the population has tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Granges- Narboz was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are now a number of companies of small and medium industries, including a modern dairy and companies in the sectors of wood processing and advertising. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Pontarlier to La Riviere Drugeon. The area is crossed by the railway line that connects the Frasnian with Pontarlier and Neuchâtel.
