Doubs (Doubs)

Doubs is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté. It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes du Larmont (CCL ).

Geography

Doubs is 812 m above sea level, about three kilometers north of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the eastern edge of the broad plateaux of Arlier ( Pontarlier - Frasnian ), both sides of the Upper Doubs, at the western foot of the height of the Bois de la Cote.

The area of ​​8.94 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The western part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Arlier, which is on average 820 m. Along the eastern edge of this plane flows of the Doubs to the north, draws a wide arc around the hill of the Cret de la Rappe (877 m), increases from left to Drugeon and turns then to the northeast, into the valley of the Val de Saugeais to enter. The earlier meandering river is now largely channeled and straightened. To the east, the municipality's area extends to the densely wooded ridge of the Bois de la Cote, of an anticline of the Jura Mountains forms in geological- tectonic point of view and is oriented southwest-northeast direction according to the strike of the Jurassic in this region. With 1052 m is reached on this ridge, the highest point of Doubs.

Neighboring communities of Doubs are Arçon in the north, Pontarlier in the east and south, and Dommartin and Vuillecin in the West.

History

The discovery of a necropolis from the Merovingian period has an early settlement of the municipality of Doubs out ( objects from excavations are kept in the museum in Pontarlier ). In the Middle Ages, the monastery had here Montbenoît rich land, while the other part of the village belonged to the reign of Pontarlier. Together with the Franche- Comté Doubs came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1999, Doubs is a member of the comprehensive 10 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Larmont.

Attractions

The imposing church was built in 1869 in the Gothic Revival style. In the village square of the Ceres fountain ( late 19th century ). With the Chapelle de La Salette Doubs has another house of worship.

Population

With 2654 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Doubs is one of the medium-sized municipalities in the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range of approximately 330 people, a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1950s. Since then, the population has quintupled. Outside the old town center, numerous new single and multi- family houses were created, so that the settlement area of Doubs has grown together today almost completely with that of Pontarlier.

Economy and infrastructure

Doubs has long been a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. Meanwhile, the village has been transformed into a residential community and to the suburb of Pontarlier. Since the 1970s, advanced mainly in the west of the Doubs larger commercial and industrial zones. Today Doubs owns about 100 companies, including trading companies, companies in the precision engineering, food and wood processing, many shops of the retail trade as well as great shopping. The village has good transport links. It is in the area of the intersection point of the main streets N75 ( Besancon - Pontarlier - Lausanne ) and D437, which runs from Pontarlier to Morteau. Today Doubs has a bus connection to Pontarlier.
