Sainte-Colombe (Doubs)

Sainte -Colombe is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Sainte -Colombe is located at 830 m above sea level, about seven kilometers west-southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the southern edge of the broad plateaux of Arlier ( Pontarlier - Frasnian ) near the channelized reaches of the Drugeon, at the northern foot of the Montagne du Laveron.

The area of ​​10:49 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Arlier, which is on average 820 m. It is partly covered by meadows, partly of moorland. The northern boundary runs along the Drugeon, a tributary of the Doubs, which once meandered through the bog surface and is channeled today. To the south, the municipality's area covers the wide, predominantly forested ridge of the Montagne du Laveron forming an anticline of the Jura Mountains in geological- tectonic terms. Here the highest elevation of Sainte -Colombe is achieved with 1024 m. There are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring municipalities of Sainte -Colombe are Bannans and Chaffois in the north, Granges- Narboz to the east, La Planée in the south and La Rivière- Drugeon in the West.

Attractions

The village church of Sainte -Colombe was built in 1845 in the style of classicism. From an elevated position south of the village is the chapel built in 1869 Notre -Dame du Bon Secours.

Population

With 355 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Sainte -Colombe is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 320 people were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Sainte -Colombe was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who principally engaged in the larger towns in the area, in Pontarlier their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Pontarlier to La Riviere Drugeon. Another road connection with La Planée. Sainte -Colombe has a station on the railway line that connects the Frasnian with Pontarlier and Neuchâtel.
