Active reactors ( gross ):

The nuclear power plant Gravelines is the French town of Gravelines in the Nord -Pas -de- Calais Nord. The nuclear power plant, which consists of six pressurized water reactors, each about 20 km lies from the cities of Dunkirk and Calais on the coast of the English Channel. It employs approximately 1,700 people and has the most employees of all nuclear power plants in France. Operator is the French company Electricité de France (EDF). For cooling is used from the English Channel water.

Key data

The six pressurized water reactors have a net power output of 910 megawatts ( MW) and a gross capacity of 951 MW. It is currently (2012), with a capacity of 5,706 MW gross the most powerful nuclear power plant, but also one of the oldest operating nuclear power plants in France. In Europe, it is the second largest nuclear power plant. Every year, it feeds an average of 37 billion kilowatt hours into the public power grid. The annual production is approximately nine to ten percent of the recovered electrical energy from nuclear power plants in France.

The construction of the first reactor block was started on February 1, 1975, this was on 13 March 1980. Between the years 1975 and 1979 has started with the construction of another five reactor units, one of which was put into operation last August 1, 1985.
