Gubkinsky (town)
Gubkinski (Russian Губкинский ) is a city in the autonomous district of the Yamal- Nenets (Russia) with 23,335 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located in the northern part of the West Siberian Plain, about 510 km southeast of the capital of the Autonomous Okrug Salechard, the river Pjakupur, the left source of the river Pur.
The city Gubkinski forms a separate urban district and is also the administrative center of the surrounding Rajons.
16 kilometers away from the town lies on the railway line Tyumen - Surgut - Novy Urengoy the station Purpe (opened up Purpe 1984 on 1985).
History
Gubkinski was officially founded as a urban-type settlement on April 22, 1986, named after the Soviet geologist Ivan Gubkin. In 1997, the site received municipal rights.
