Noyabrsk

Nojabrsk (Russian Ноябрьск ) is a city with 110 620 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Russia.

Geography

Nojabrsk is in the northwest of Siberia near the Arctic Circle, southeast of Obbusens. South of Nojabrsk the limit is for the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District / Ugra. The distance to Salechard 1065 km, 1550 km to Tyumen. The nearest town is Muravlenko around 80 km.

History

Nojabrsk is a young city, the city rights were awarded only in the year 1982.

The beginnings of the town date back to the year 1973, when began oil production in this area. For the workers, residential buildings were built in November 1976, the settlement Nojabrski ( "November settlement " literally) was officially established. End of that year she had 1523 inhabitants. The settlement grew steadily on, schools and roads were built. The granting of town rights were on 28 April 1982.
