Guo Yuehua

Guo Yuehua (Chinese郭 跃华/郭 跃华, Guo Yuehua Pinyin; born February 4, 1956 in Xiamen) is a Chinese table tennis player. He is a two time world champion in singles and three-time world champion team.

Sometimes his name is also specified with Kuo Yue -hua or Guo Yaohua.

He grew up in Southeast China and worked in the early 1980s as a sports teacher in Shanghai.

World Championships

Four times Guo Yuehua took part in the World Championships, each time he reached the final of the individual.

At the World Championships 1977 in Birmingham, he won the title with the Chinese team. In individual he reached the final, where he defeated the Japanese Mitsuru Kohno.

In 1979 he was again runner-up, this time he lost the final against Seiji Ono (Japan ), which he gave up in the fourth set due to a muscle tear. In doubles, he came up with Liang Geliang at No. 3, with the Chinese team, he was behind Hungary in second.

In 1981 he won the first singles title in front of his compatriot Cai Zhenhua. Even with the team he was first. In doubles, he won with Saike Xie (China ) Silver.

The most successful Guo Yuehua was at the World Cup 1983 in Tokyo. Here he won three titles: In single again before Cai Zhenhua, in mixed with Ni Xialian (China) and with the Chinese team.

Retreat

After the 1983 World Championship Guo Yuehua declared its withdrawal from the international competitive sport. He started at the University of Fujian, a study of education and then worked as an instructor for physical education teachers. The Government of Fujian Province appointed him deputy director of the Sports Committee, but in this office he was never active.

Time in Germany

1987 was committed for the Bundesliga Guo Yuehua from SSV Reutlingen. Here he played until 1992, then at Hertha BSC. In 1993 he returned to China.

Private

Guo Yuehua is the son of a teacher. He grew up in a family of six. In 1983 he married Shen Yan, he has a son ( born 1986 ).
