The district Reichenau was first mentioned in 1436. In the years 1429 to 1431 Hussites plundered the town and destroyed the church. Another stroke of fate befell the city in 1680, when the plague raged and called for nearly 80 lives. Also in the wars of liberation of the city had to suffer. There were quartered Prussian and Russian troops then in Reichenau.

The open air theater was built in the 1930s.

The districts Gersdorf and Möhrsdorf are also classic Waldhufen villages and in 1225 ( Gersdorf ), and 1264 ( Möhrsdorf ) first mentioned.

The district Bischheim is first mentioned in 1225.
