Hersdorf

Hersdorf is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Prüm.

Geography

The place is located in the Eifel between Prüm and Gerolstein. The western part of the municipality is located in the North Eifel Nature Park. Hersdorf divided into the districts Niederhersdorf, Oberhersdorf, Jakobsknopp, Hexler and white soaps; the municipality also includes the living spaces on Rödelberg and Anzelterhof.

History

The town was first mentioned in 893 in Prüm land register as Herlendorpht documented.

By the end of the 18th century Hersdorf belonged to two different territories. Niederhersdorf belonged to the Electorate of Trier and was under as a separate Zennerei the Office Prum, Oberhersdorf other hand, belonged to the rule Fleringen that belonged gorgeous country of Trier Abbey of St. Irminen and was administered by the Duke of Arenberg as bailiff.

In 1794, French revolutionary troops had occupied the left bank of the Rhine. Under the French administration, the two villages were in 1798 assigned to the Canton of Prüm in the Saarland Department.

The church today Hersdorf was taken on March 20, 1971 by the merger of the two communities Niederhersdorf (then 315 inhabitants) and Oberhersdorf (76).

Culture and sights

The Hersdorfer castle is a former nobility and Gutsherrenhof and was built for the noble family " Aer ". The property was built in 1509. It has a portal with zweiläufiger staircase of 1660. The on the picture is not visible, about 2 m high outer walls that surround the building, evidence of its importance and valor. The building is privately owned.
