Ho-Pin Tung
Ho -Pin Tung (Chinese董荷斌, Pinyin Dǒng Hebin; born December 4, 1982 in Velp, Netherlands) is a Sino- Dutch racing driver. He was master of the 2006 German Formula 3 in 2007, 2008 and 2010, he competed in the GP2 series.
Career
Tung began in 1997 in the Netherlands his motorsport career in karting. After he had collected in 2001 and 2002 in the Netherlands and Benelux Formula Ford experience in Formula racing, he moved in 2003 in the Asian Formula BMW and was dominant champion. Tung won ten of 14 races and was not only in a race on the podium. As a reward for his title win he took part in a Formula 1 test drive of the Williams team. 2004 Tung joined in the German Formula 3 Cup. After he had occupied the seventh place overall in his first season, he won two races in 2005 and finished third in the overall standings. In its third season, won the league title in 2006 stays with nine victories.
In 2007 he competed in several races of the season 2006/2007 season in the A1GP series, where he became the first Chinese made the leap to the podium in Sydney. In the same year he drove in the GP2 Series for the BCN team Competición. At Spa -Francorchamps he won his first points with eighth place in the main and fourth place in the sprint race. He finished the season in 23rd place in the drivers' standings.
After completion of the 2007 season moved to the Italian team Trident Racing Tung, for he went to the starting line in the newly created GP2 Asia Series. As a teammate of Harald Schlegelmilch he finished the 2008 season behind his teammate at the 21st place overall. In the European GP2 series he stayed with Trident and denied his second season on the side of Mike Conway, the British Formula 3 champion from the 2006 season. Tung His only points scored in the race weekend in Monte Carlo. After he had finished seventh in the feature race, he was in the sprint race behind Conway Second and gave the team a double victory. At the end of the season, he finished 18th in the overall standings.
In the 2008/2009 season Tung returned to the A1GP series and scored the only points for the Chinese A1 team, which finished in 18th place in the overall standings at the end of the season. He then moved into the Superleague Formula and began the 2009 season for the team of Atletico Madrid. After standing at Zolder in second on the podium, he moved to three race weekends, the team of Galatasaray, winning the last race of the season at Jarama.
In the Formula 1 2010 season Tung was the official reserve driver for the Renault team. In addition, he initially went along with his Renault test driver Jérôme D' Ambrosio colleagues for DAMS in the 2010 GP2 Series at the start. In the race at the Hungaroring he collided with Jules Bianchi. Both pilots had with fractures of the lumbar vertebrae to the hospital. While Bianchi surgery was required, had to Tung's injury did not undergo surgery. However, he dropped out for two race weekends in contrast to Bianchi. After he originally should miss the last race weekend, he returned as a substitute for the diseased Christian Vietoris for Racing Engineering back to the GP2 series. At the end of the season, he finished without points 28th place overall. Tung held with with any of his teammates. 2011 Tung was a test driver for Renault. In addition, Tung for two races received an IndyCar cockpit at Dragon Racing. After he had 500 sustained a concussion in an accident in qualifying for the Indianapolis, he was allowed to complete any additional qualifying rounds and did not qualify. He made his debut in Sonoma. He also took part in this season at a meeting of the Superleague Formula. He started for assisted by DeVillota.com Motorsport Team China and a tenth place was his best result. In the years 2012 and 2013 Ho -Pin Tung went to the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, where he started for the PICC Team Star Chase and 130 (2012 ) and 123 (2013 ) points each finished in 5th place overall. 2013 succeeded doing a victory in the first race in Korea.
