Hong Kong at the 1996 Summer Olympics

Hong Kong took at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta for the eleventh time in the Olympic Summer Games in part. It was the last part as a British colony before 1 January 1997 Hong Kong should be returned by Britain to the People's Republic of China. The team consisted of 23 athletes, 14 of which are male and nine were female. They started in 25 contests in ten sports, while they won a gold medal. It was the first Olympic gold medal for Hong Kong as well as the first medal win at all. The youngest participant was the diver Ng Sui with 15 years and 339 days, the oldest was the shooter Cheng Shu Ming with 50 years and 238 days. During the opening ceremony on 19 July 1996, the athlete Chan Sau Ying carried the flag of Hong Kong in the Olympic Stadium.
