Horea (Alba)

Horea (deprecated Arada also Gura - Aradi; Hungarian Arada ) is a town in Alba county in Transylvania, Romania.

Location

The place Horea lies on the upper reaches of the river Arada and the county road (Drum Judetean ) DJ 108, in the north of Alba County. In Pimp land between the foothills of the Mountains, Bihor in the west and the Muntele Mare in the east, the community expands with 14 smaller villages and hamlets on an area of ​​6,041 acres in a mountainous landscape. The nearest major town Câmpeni there are 25 km; the county capital Alba Iulia is located about 100 kilometers southeast.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1733 or 1839 under the name Arada village as the large village Raul Mare. According to different data, the village belonged until 1924 or 1932 to Raul Mare, which is the church today Albac. In honor of Vasile Ursu Nicola called Horea - the leader of the Peasants' Revolt of 1784 - the town was renamed in Horea 1968.

Horea - a skilled builder for wooden houses - built his house on the mountain Dealu Feticetului where it stood until the First World War. The massive front door of oak beams is kept in Brukenthal Museum of Sibiu. In place of his house, a monument was erected not far from there is an ash tree which was declared a natural monument.

The inhabitants live mainly from wood processing and animal husbandry.

Population

In the first census of the town (1930 ), 3,460 inhabitants were counted; 3,446 Romanians and 14 Roma. In the field of community censuses were conducted regularly until 1956. In 1956, of the 3,799 registered people of the community were 3,775 Romanians, 24 Roma. 2002, of the 2,371 inhabitants - consistently in all the villages in Romania ( total of 2,352 ), with the exception of the place Horea -, 19 Roma counted.
