Hottwil
Hottwil ( in the local dialect Hottel, hɔt ː əl ) is a village in the Swiss canton of Aargau. It is located in the northeast of the Frick Valley region. Until the end of 2009 Hottwil formed an independent municipality in the district of Brugg, since it is one of five villages in the newly created municipality in the district of Laufen castle Mettauertal.
Geography
The village is surrounded by the Jura plateau between the Aare and Rhine valley and is surrounded on all sides by hills. It is located at the upper end of the Mettauertals, which is drained by the Etzgerbach to the northwest towards the Rhine. To the west lies the 649 -meter-high foliage mountain, south of the Beiberg ( 585 m above sea level. M. ) and the Hott Wilerhorn (646 m above sea level. M. ), to the east of the Wessenberg (605 m above sea level. M. ) with an old castle ruins. On the southwestern slope of Wessenberg's wine production.
The area of the former municipality area was 416 hectares, including 163 hectares were forested and built over 18 hectares. The highest point was the peak of foliage mountain ( 649 meters), the lowest was 395 meters at Etzgerbach.
Neighboring communities were Wil in the north, Mandach in the east, in the southeast Villigen, Remigen in the south and Gansingen in the West.
History
The first mention of Hotiwilare place in the year 1150th The name can be derived from the Old High German Hotinwilari and means " farm estate of Hoto ". In the Middle Ages the most land belonged to the nobles of Wessenberg whose castle was on the same mountain on the border with Mandach. Rulers and judges were the Habsburgs, the zuteilten the village office Waldshut. 1316 had the Habsburgs, the villages Mandach and Hottwil pledge for lack of funds at the Whose Berger. To date, Hottwil has remained a relationship of agriculture and wine growing village. Between 1900 and 1970, the population fell by about 20 percent, as many villagers were forced to look for work elsewhere. Since then, however, the population is rising slightly again.
On March 20, 2008, Town Meeting approved the merger of Hottwil with Etzgen, Mettau, Oberhofen and Wil to the municipality Mettauertal. The ballot on 1 June 2008 also was in favor of a merger. The merger took place on 1 January 2010. Hottwil As had previously belonged to the district of Brugg, the former municipality was added to the District Laufen castle.
Coat of arms
The blazon of the former town and present-day village coat of arms is: " In äsender white on green ground red deer. " In this form, there is the coat of arms since 1872, when the community had to use a seal. The symbolism of the deer is not known, the former records do not indicate.

At 31 December 2008 259 people lived in Hottwil, the proportion of foreigners was 6.2 %. At the 2000 census, 53.1 % were reformed and 32.2 % Roman Catholic. 95.9 % identified German as their main language.
Traffic
The village is located off of larger thoroughfares, the main access is from Etzgen forth by the Mettauertal. The road continues over the Bürersteig to Remigen and finally to Brugg. Besides roads lead to Gansingen, Mandach and Villigen. Hottwil is served by the postal bus Brugg Racing Castle to the public transport network.
Education
Hottwil has since summer 2006 has not its own school more. The youngest students visit in neighboring Wil primary school. The secondary can be visited in Gansingen, the secondary school and the district school in the school center in Blue Running castle. The nearest Canton schools ( high schools ) are located in Baden and betting rings.
