István Kozma (wrestler)

István Kozma [' iʃtva ː n kozmɒ ] ( born November 27, 1939 in Budapest, † April 9, 1970 ) was a Hungarian wrestler.

Career

Kozma started early with the rings and came up with 17 years Vasas Budapest and coach Lajos Keresztes, a former Olympic gold medalist in wrestling. Kozma became a giant of over 2.00 m tall and about 145 kg body weight. Nevertheless, he remained quick and agile for a heavyweight. One of his great advantages were his long arms, with which he could hold his opponents easier as a wrestler with shorter arms. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 he made his international debut. From 1961 to 1968, then success -ranked success. He also wrestled several times against the German Ringer King Wilfried Dietrich. Earlier in his career he was subject to this yet, because it was Dietrich of experience ahead. But after a relatively short time Dietrich Kozma could not defeat. As it happened to not only Dietrich, all other Superschwergewichtler of international standing had hardly a chance against Kozma. The best was still holding the Soviet athletes Anatoly Rosh Chin against him, but could not prevent István Kozma 1964 and 1968 Olympic champion. The other Soviet wrestler Nikolai Shmakov and Ivan Bogdan were defeated by Kozma. A surprising defeat had Kozma plug at the European Championships in 1968 against the Czech Petr Kment and therefore was behind this European Vice Champion. After the 1968 Olympics he had started with a coach education, which is why he denied any international competitions from 1969. The entirety of its major tournaments with the struggles that he denied it, are listed in the " International Achievements " read.

On April 9, 1970, he died as a result of a traffic accident in Budapest. István Kozma was in the 1960s, the best heavyweight wrestler in the world in Greco- Roman style. In 12 major tournaments ( Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships ), he lost only three fights and won their 43 Of the four opponents that stood against him, the Soviet Union in those years ( Bogdan, Rosh Chin, Shmakov and Kotschnew ) succeeded only in Shmakov, Kozma to defeat once. For his contributions to the sport wrestler he was taken in September 2007 in the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame.
