Jack Lew

Jacob J. "Jack" Lew ( born August 29, 1955 in New York) is an American lawyer and politician (Democratic Party). Under President Bill Clinton, he was Director of the Office of Management and Budget, under Barack Obama, first deputy foreign minister for the area of ​​management and budgeting; from 18 November 2010, he belonged to the Cabinet as Obama's director of the Office of Management and Budget to, before joining 27 January 2012 to the post of Chief of Staff in the White House. He previously worked among other things as a lawyer, university lecturer and business manager. Until January 25, 2013 Lew held the position of Chief of Staff in the White House. Since February 28, 2013, is the new finance minister.

Life

Jacob Lew, was born in 1955 as the child of Jewish immigrants from Poland in Queens, New York City. The family of his father, Irving Lew, was after the end of the First World War, his mother's family, Ruth (born Turoff ), immigrated several years earlier from Poland to the United States. Irving Lew worked as a lawyer and antiquarian book, Ruth ( Turoff ) Lew as an office manager of a law firm.

Jacob Lew attended public schools and studied after graduating from Forest Hills High School ( FHHS ) in Queens, New York in 1972, first at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, but then moved on to Harvard University, where in 1978 the Bachelor received level (BA).

After completing school in 1973, he was until the completion of studies in 1979 auxiliary power for the legislative process in Congress. Subsequently, he served from 1979 to 1987 as a domestic policy advisor to Tip O'Neill, the Democratic Speaker of the House. On January 10, 2013 President Obama nominated Lew to the post of finance minister. On February 28, 2013, the Senate confirmed his nomination.
