Jack McCartan

John William McCartan (* August 5, 1935 in Saint Paul, Minnesota ) is a retired American professional ice hockey goaltender and coach who has played in its active period from 1955 to 1975, including for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 he won the gold medal as a member of the U.S. national team.

Career

Jack McCartan began his career as a hockey player at the University of Minnesota, which he attended from 1955 to 1958 while he was playing in parallel for their hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. He then played one year for Team USA at the Olympic preparation. From 1959 to 1961, the goalkeeper ran in a total of twelve games for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League. In the 1959/60 season he ran in addition to the amateur team Minneapolis Rangers and 1960-1962 for the farm team of the Rangers, the Kitchener- Waterloo Beavers of the Eastern Professional Hockey League on. The season 1962/63 he spent with the Los Angeles Blades of the Western Hockey League. The season 1963/64 he spent with the St. Louis Braves of the Central Professional Hockey League. The season 1964/65 he started again with the St. Louis Braves in the CPhl, but returned after only five games to the Los Angeles Blades of the WHL back. In the WHL, he also played from 1965 to 1967 for the San Francisco Seals, from 1966 as the California Seals competed.

The 1967/68 season spent McCartan at the Omaha Knights of the CPhl. In the following four years he played for the San Diego Gulls of the WHL. Most recently, he was from 1972 to 1975 for the Minnesota Fighting Saints regularly in the World Hockey Association between the posts. In the 1973/74 season he also completed six games for Minnesota's farm team Suncoast Suns in the Southern Hockey League. Already in the season 1974/75 the Americans had already worked as an assistant coach for Minnesota in the WHA. In this function, he served in the 1976/77 season at Minnesota. In the season 1977/78 he was head coach of the Amateur League United States Hockey League of the St. Paul Vulcans. From 2000 to 2006 he was employed as a scout for the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL. In 1983 he was honored with induction into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame. In 1998, the recording was followed into the IIHF Hall of Fame.

Internationally

For the U.S. McCartan participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 in part in Squaw Valley, where he won the gold medal with his team. In addition, he was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
