James Calado

James Calado ( born June 13, 1989 in Cropthorne, Worcestershire ) is a British racing driver. He joined in 2012 and 2013 in the GP2 series.

Career

Calado began his motorsport career in 1999 in karting, where he was active until 2007. Among other things, he won the 2005 European Championship ICA. In 2008 he moved to Formula racing to Fortec Motorsport. He went to the British Formula Renault at the start and finished with a victory the seventh place overall. He also took part in three races of the North European Formula Renault. Then Calado won the Winter Championships of the British and Portuguese Formula Renault. 2009 remained Calado in the British Formula Renault and Fortec Motorsport. He won with eight wins most races, was at the end of the season but only runner-up behind Dean Smith, the less decided a race for themselves. In addition, he took part in six races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Euro Cups in part, finishing in 17th place overall in this series.

2010 Calado moved to the British Formula 3 championship Carlin. In the second race weekend in Silverstone Calado two decided by three races for themselves and thus took his first victory in the British Formula 3 Championship. With a total of five victories, he was runner-up behind his team-mate Jean- Éric Vergne. 2011 Calado went for Lotus ART in the GP3 Series at the start. He won a race and finished the season in second place behind his team-mate Valtteri Bottas from. After the season Calado took part for Lotus ART GP2 Final at 2011. Here he won the sprint race for himself and was fifth in the standings.

2012 Calado went for ART in GP2 series at the start. The team competed in the season as Lotus GP. Already in the sprint race of the season opener in Sepang, he won his first race in the GP2 series. With Calados failure in the sprint race in Monte Carlo ended its series with 57 series overall aim of arrivals in a row. During the sprint race at Hockenheim, he scored his second win of the season. With 160 to 176 points Calado subject within the team Esteban Gutierrez. As best newcomer was Calado fifth in the drivers' standings. 2013 remained at ART Calado, who use the name of ART Grand Prix again this year. After he had scored in the season opener in second place in the feature race, he caused a collision in the sprint race. In the eighth event in Spa -Francorchamps Calado scored his first win of the season in the sprint race. Previously, three second places were his best results. A victory he repeated at the season finale in the sprint race at the Yas Marina Circuit. Calado finished the season with 159 points in third place and sat down with it within the team clearly against Daniel Abt, who scored 11 points through.
