Järfälla Municipality

Järfälla is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish Stockholm County and the historic province of Uppland. The capital of the district is Jacob Berg.

Geography

The community is located on Lake Mälaren about 20 km north-west of Stockholm city center. The area has suburban vibe and connected to Stockholm by a line of the suburban train, which takes the distance about 20 minutes.

History

The settlement of the area began in the Stone Age. Even today, many archeological ruins to find from this era. After the Christianization of the population in the 11th century a church was built around the year 1200, which still exists today. In the Middle Ages the importance of the area increased as some important roads led through the community. Between 1675 and 1905, the center of a larger administrative unit was ( Harde ) the territory of present-day community.

The coat of arms, whose origins can be traced back to the year 1568, shows a lamb carrying the golden double cross of the archbishop. It should probably symbolize that Järfälla lies on the route between the capital Stockholm and the seat of the Archbishop of Uppsala.

The largest population growth took place 1930-1940, when many middle-class families settled in the capital Jacob Berg.

Places

All settlements in the municipality have grown together over the years. They form an urban area, which administratively to the village ( tätort ) Stockholm is expected. The only exception is the small village-like place ( småort ) Lund. Larger districts are:
