Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou

Jaroměřice Rokytná ( German Jarmeritz ) is a city in the Czech Republic. Lies 14 kilometers south of Třebíč and belongs to Okres Třebíč. The cityscape of the Moravian Baroque city is dominated by the castle and the St. Margaret 's Cathedral.

Geography

Jaroměřice Rokytná located in the Jevisovicka pahorkatina ( Jaispitzer hills ) in the southern part of the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands. The town lies in the valley of the Rokytná creek at the confluence of Rokytka and Štěpánovický. To the north lie the ponds Troubský rybnik and Vlčák. In the north- east rises the Ve Žlebe ( 468 m ) east of the Zabik ( 474 m) and the Stříbrná hora (531 m). West of the city verläüft the railway line Znojmo - Kolin, the train station " Jaroměřice Rokytná " is located in the village two kilometers away Popovice.

Neighboring towns are Štěpánovice in the north, and Boňov Příložany in the northeast, Myslibořice, Udeřice and Radkovice u Hrotovic in the east, in the southeast Příštpo, Ohrazenice and Blatnice in the south, Bohušice the southwest, Popovice in the west and Lesůňky and Vacenovice in the northwest.

History

According to ancient histories Jaroměřice to have been founded in 1131. For the first time in writing detectable Jermiric since the year 1325, when John of Luxembourg transferred the patronage of the church of the Monastery Sedlec. After the abolition of patrimonial Jaroměřice formed in 1850 a municipality and the seat of a district court in the district of Znojmo. At that time, the market had 2332 inhabitants. 1871 was taken at Popowitz the railway operation. Attractions

  • Castle Jaroměřice Rokytná, originating from the 14th century fortress was transformed in the 1560s under Louis of Meziříčí into a Renaissance chateau. Johann Adam Questenberg erected the present Baroque castle 1700-1737. It is not certain who delivered the plans to it, it is assumed that they could come from Jacob Prandtauer or Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt, possibly by Thomas Gravani.
