Jarov (Plzeň-South District)

Jarov ( German Jarau ) is a municipality with 237 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It is located seven kilometers northwest of the town of Nepomuk and belongs to Okres Plzeň -jih. The land area is 537 ha

Geography

The village is located 525 m above sea level in a shallow depression between the hills Chroustov ( 589 m) and Dus ( 582 m). East of the village the Europa road 49/Staatsstraße 20 runs from Pilsen to Nepomuk.

Neighboring towns are Čabuzí and Zhur in the north, Mecholupy in the east, Prádlo, Novotníky and Chvostule the southeast, Kokorov in the south, Březí in the southwest and Částkov and Svárkov in the West.

History

The first written mention of Jarov took place in 1558. The place is, however, much older. The village probably belonged to the possessions of the monastery Pomuk and came to its destruction in 1420 along with most villages in the area to rule Grünberg.

After the replacement of patrimonial Jarov was an independent municipality in 1850. 1875 began teaching in the village school einklassigen, before the children were enrolled in school after Prádlo. In 1924 in Jarov an amateur dramatic theater.
