Nepomuk

Nepomuk ( German Pomuk ) is a city in western Bohemia, Czech Republic. It lies on the Mihovka in western Bohemia 35 km southeast of Pilsen on the E49 in the direction of České Budějovice. North of town, the Zelena Hora rises (536 m).

History

To the Cistercian monastery, founded in 1144 by the monastery Nepomuk Ebrach out in the Monastery and resulted in several villages. Nepomuk has had since 1250 and from 1254 Rechtsässigkeit Market Law, the place came as well as the adjacent village Přesanice in the 13th and 14th centuries by placer gold and silver mining wealth. 1384 united Přesanice and Nepomuk. 1413 was the place by Wenzel the lazy granted town rights.

In April 1420 town and monastery were burned by the troops in January Žižka. While the monastery remained desolate, the reconstruction of the city was carried out by German colonists.

Attractions

  • The Gothic St. James Church on Pschesanitzer place was built in 1290-1295. The triple nave measures within her 16 times 18 m. In the church is the family vault of the Counts of Sternberg. The presbytery of the church was constructed with red marble. 1780 a baroque church tower was added in place of the dilapidated bell tower of the sacristy.
  • Located next to the church was built in 1678 Erzdechanat instead of a wooden old building. In 1748 it was built according to plans by Kilian Ignaz Dietzenhofer and received by a tag in the years 1939-1945 its present appearance.
  • The Church of St. John of Nepomuk stands on the site of a built 1643-1660 previous building. Originally dedicated to St. John the Baptist church was consecrated in 1729 on the occasion of the canonization of the new patron and demolished in 1734. Under the direction of Kilian Ignaz Dietzenhofer originated from 1736 present baroque church.
  • Built in 1360-1370 "Zur Linde Bohemian " on Pschesanitzer place served as a Council and guest house later
