Jay Wells

Gordon Jay Wells ( born May 18, 1959 in Paris, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach. In his 18 seasons career that spanned he played for the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender. In 1994 he won the Rangers the Stanley Cup. Most recently he served as assistant coach of the American Hockey League clubs Manitoba Moose.

Career

Jay Wells was born in the small town ontarischen Paris. In his youth he played for the Kingston Canadians in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League. The Canadiens players completed a total of three seasons. At the end of his third and final junior season Wells was included in the First All - Star team OMJHL. In the NHL Entry Draft in 1979, the Canadian was selected in the first round at a total of 16 position by the Los Angeles Kings.

Wells started the NHL season 1979/80 at Los Angeles ' farm team, the Binghamton Dusters, in the American Hockey League. Jay Wells spent nine seasons with the Kings, but he was particularly struck by his physical game on; he received in the 1985/86 season in 79 games completed 226 penalty minutes. Nearly two years later, on 9 March 1992, the Sabres transferred him in exchange for Randy Moller to the New York Rangers on.

In New York, the players remained until the end of the season 1994 / 95th In the season before he won the Rangers the Stanley Cup after the finals, the Vancouver Canucks were defeated.
