Johan Remen Evensen

Johan Remen Evensen (born 16 September 1985) is a former Norwegian ski jumper. With a length of 246.5 meters on the Vikersundbakken he is ski flying world record holder.

Career

At the age of 16 years, Evensen pulled in a heavy fall at the Granåsen in Trondheim a life-threatening injury of the kidney and had to sit for a while in a wheelchair. Although he never could have jumped back in the opinion of the doctors, he practiced his sport further. In 2004, he stepped in to the Norwegian Championship, where he finished in 25th place while jumping at Holmenkollen. In the following years, he took up with another Norwegian Championships, there was a 15th place in 2007 in Molde at his best result. In addition, he also launched in Norges Cup, a national ski jumping series of the Norwegian Ski Federation, and was able to win some of these jumping. In January 2007 he participated as a fore part in ski flying in Vikersund. Beginning of March 2007 finally launched Evensen in the FIS Cup Japanese Zaō first time in an international competition. In his debut match, he could take second place, the next day and a week later in Sapporo he could win even jumping. In mid-March he appeared in Zakopane for the first time in a Continental Cup competitions and was runner-up. At season's end, he served again as a fore in ski flying, this time in Slovenia Planica. The beginning of 2008, he took up with another Continental Cup and could occupy several places in the top ten. End of the season 2007/ 08 he was a fore again in ski flying in Planica and placed there his personal best of 212 m. Although he is only mediocre rankings in the summer competitions 2008 of the Continental Cup, he started in early December 2008 in Trondheim for the first time in the Ski Jumping World Cup, where he finished tenth straight away. On 14 December 2008, he reached the aborted after one round of jumping in Pragelato with 3rd place his first podium. After that, his form had significantly after and he fought mostly for a place in the second round. When Jumping Four Hills Tournament in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he could as 55th in the qualification does not qualify for the actual competition. After he finished two places in the remaining 21 tour - jumping and therefore in the tour overall ranking was 24, he was able to demonstrate consistently finishes among the best thirty at the next World Cup jumping. It has therefore been nominated for the Nordic Ski World Championships in 2009 and won the team competition the silver medal. On 14 February 2009, he finished the ski flying event in Oberstdorf third place behind Harri Olli and Anders Jacobsen. Thus he was instrumental in the victory of the Norwegian team at the FIS Team Tour, during which this took place jumping. At the ski flying event at Kulm he could with 210 meters put the maximum width of the ski flying weekend. Since the passage was restarted later due to the long start-up, his flight was not considered.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics he won the bronze medal with the team in the team competition.

On 11 February 2011, Johan Remen Evensen improved the ski flying world record by Bjørn Einar Romøren, in 2005 jumped 239 meters in Planica, when he flew in training for the first fly on the newly built ski flying hill in Vikersund to 243 meters. In the following qualifications he improved that record again with a jump on 246.5 meters.

After the non-consideration in the nomination for the Ski Flying World Championships in Vikersund Evensen announced his immediate resignation. He justified this on 20 February 2012 with health reasons and told to have taken this decision on Saturday prior to the announcement of the squad nomination.
