FIS Ski-Flying World Championships 2010

The Ski Flying World Cup 2010 was held from 19 to 21 March at the Letalnica in Slovenia Planica. It was there held for the sixth time Ski Flying World Championships. They consisted of a single competition together in four runs and a team competition. Title defenders were Gregor Schlierenzauer and the Austrian team. The individual competition was Simon Ammann win, while the Austrian team was able to repeat his team's success in 2008. The Ski Flying World Championships also marked the end of the ski season 2009/10.

Individual competition

Training

In the first training run for the individual competition a total of 69 out of 70 reported jumpers were at the start, of which there are 16 managed a length of 200 meters and more to stand. The longest flight it succeeded Noriaki Kasai ( 215.5 meters).

The second training run denied an athlete less, and there were a total of 17 jumps over 200 meters. The Czech Antonin Hajek Springer succeeded doing with 228.5 meters, the longest flight to date of the weekend. Nevertheless, was Simon Ammann ( 217.5 meters ) at the end before Hajek, as this was concerned more with his jump of five hatches above. Defending champion Gregor Schlierenzauer ( 211.5 meters) lined up in the final bill immediately after Ammann and Hajek on the third place.

Qualification

The longest jump of the athletes who had to first qualify yet, had Noriaki Kasai ( 210.5 meters). All Germans and Austrians qualified for the first round.

Already pre-qualified were the top ten of the overall World Cup, led by fixed even as overall World Cup champion Simon Ammann. From them sprang Bjørn Einar Romøren with 230.5 meters farthest. This landed Romøren the hitherto longest jump at this ski flying World Cup.

First Round

After the first passage Adam Malysz led with 217.5 meters and 215.1 points ahead of Simon Ammann and Anders Jacobsen. The longest flight succeeded local hero Robert Kranjec with 223.5 meters. In the first round, there were 15 flights over the 200m mark, one of which is the defending champion Gregor Schlierenzauer ( 209.5 meters, 208.7 points ) was achieved.

The qualifying winner, Noriaki Kasai, flew with 215.5 yards on the 13th Place.

Second Pass

In the second round the Austrian David Zauner surprisingly succeeded the longest jump on 223 meters. He pushed himself thereby from 15th to tenth place forward. Adam Malysz lost his lead due to slightly worse conditions and a 1.5 meters shorter leap to only 215 meters to Simon Ammann. After two rounds Simon Ammann therefore leads with 2.8 points ahead of Adam Malysz and 17.2 points ahead of defending champion Gregor Schlierenzauer.

Best German is after the first day of competition, lying on rank 18, Martin Schmitt. Schmitt has reached 372.3 points in the two scored rounds and thus has 56.1 points off a medal.

Third round

After the third passage Simon Ammann maintained its top position before Małysz and Schlierenzauer. With 230.5 meters Anders Jacobsen was the longest jump of the passage and thus improved to rank fifth

Fourth passage

After four rounds of Swiss Simon Ammann won the individual competition ahead of Gregor Schlierenzauer of Austria and Anders Jacobsen from Norway. Ammann scored in the passages 2, 3 and 4 the highest score of all the jumper. The best German Michael Uhrmann finished the competition ranked 19th ( 745.7 points).

Team competition

The team competition consisting of two passes, was held for the completion of the Ski Flying World Championships on March 21, 2010. After the first passage led the Austrian team before Norway and Finland. Changed at this level in the second passage in which eight teams were allowed to start with the best of the first round, nothing more. The German team finished the competition in 7th place, a Swiss team did not start in the team competition.
