John Gerald Milton

John Gerald Milton ( born January 21, 1881 in Jersey City, New Jersey, † 14 April 1977 ibid ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who represented the State of New Jersey in the U.S. Senate.

John Milton attended the public schools of his native city of Jersey City. After studying law, he was admitted in 1903 to the bar and began to practice as a lawyer in Jersey City.

On January 18, 1938 he became the new governor of New Jersey, A. Harry Moore, nominated to compete its successor in the U.S. Senate. Milton took his seat in part until the election of a successor on 8 November of that year; he renounced own candidacy in this election, won by the Republican William Warren Barbour. After his short tenure in Congress Milton went back to his lawyer in Jersey City to where he died in April 1977. He was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
