John H. Bartlett

John Henry Bartlett ( born March 15, 1869 in Sunapee, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, † March 19, 1952 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire ) was an American politician and 1919-1921 Governor of the State of New Hampshire.

Early years and political rise

John Bartlett attended to 1894 Dartmouth College. During a subsequent law degree, he worked as a teacher. After qualifying as a lawyer, he became a member of a law firm in Portsmouth. Politically Bartlett was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1899 and 1907 he was head of the post office in Portsmouth. In the years 1905 and 1906 he was a member of the senior staff of Governor John McLane. John Bartlett was also involved in the preparations for the meeting in Portsmouth in 1905 Peace Conference that ended the Russo -Japanese War and, ultimately, President Theodore Roosevelt earned the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1916, Bartlett was president of the regional convention of his party for New Hampshire. Between 1917 and 1918 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from New Hampshire.

In 1918, John Bartlett was elected governor of his state. He joined his two-year term of office on 6 January 1919. During these years the municipalities of the state were authorized to operate on their own streets and subways. At that time a committee was formed which reviewed the expenses of the different government agencies. Governor Bartlett renounced in 1920 to a bid again.

After his governorship, he was established in July 1921 as a successor to Martin A. Morrison President of the Civil Service Commission. In 1922 he was in a leading position ( Assistant Postmaster General ) employed by the U.S. Post Office. Between 1929 and 1939 he was chairman of the International Joint Commission, a US-Canadian Commission for the regulation of open issues between the two countries for the American side. In the 1930s, he became a follower operated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt 's New Deal policies. For this reason he also changed at that time to the Democratic Party. After his time in the American- Canadian Committee to Bartlett withdrew into retirement. He died in March 1952 and was buried in Portsmouth. Governor John Bartlett was married twice and had a child.
