Jos Hermens

Jos Hermens (actually: Josephus Maria Melchior Hermens, born January 8, 1950 in Nijmegen ) is a former Dutch long-distance runner, who has worked as a manager of athletes such as Haile Gebrselassie today.

Career as a track and field athlete

Jos Hermens successful career as an athlete began with the fourth over 3000 meters at the European Junior Championships in 1968 in Leipzig. Hermens 1972 Dutch champion in cross-country running. The European Athletics Championships 1974 in Rome Hermens was again fourth but in the 5000-meter run. In 1975 he was again cross national champion. Hermens world record in the hours of operation continued until 1991, when Arturo Barrios of Mexico surpassed him by 157 meters. However, the former world record -hour battery is still Dutch record.

Career as manager

After his career end Hermens worked as a representative of the sporting goods manufacturer Nike.
