The Jungfernstieg Station is an important hub of public transport in Hamburg. It extends across three interconnected platform halls under the same road and part of the Inner Alster Lake / Kleine Alster. The first platform was opened by " KellJung " line, now part of the U1 on 25 March 1931. At the time, until 1958 no connection within the station premises to the ring line, today's U3.

Location and extent

The entire underground station complex comprises three levels four platforms, including the first for the U1, two for the U2 and U4 as well as in between a platform, which is operated jointly by the lines S1, S2 and S3 of the City - S-Bahn. In addition, since 1958, there is an underground connection to the subway station and the town hall there trains running U3, so until 1973 these two metro stops were considered together as a transfer station.

The platform on the U1 line in traffic level -2 runs directly under the Jungfernstieg and Reesendamm bridge and crosses the Kleine Alster at right angles. The adjacent stations are approximately 0.8 kilometer ( Stephansplatz north ) and 0.7 km ( Meßberg in the southeast ).

In the plane -3 which opened on June 1, 1975, resulting in an open design platform of the City -S -Bahn is (initially for the interim moderate line S10). The southwestern part of the platform with access via a mezzanine level ticket hall at the town hall market is below the Little Alster, the northeastern under the Alster Lake. A fixed staircase in the central area connects directly with the overlying platform of U1, the northeastern Departures lead to the U2 platforms or to switch hall at Alstertor. From the platform are both 0.7 kilometers south-east to the town house bridge and 1.4 kilometers north-west route in the arch to the central station.

The platforms of the U2 and U4 are in 16 m depth below the Inner Alster on level -4. The two direction parallel platforms extend below the investor the Alster ships in west-east direction below the confluence Alstertor in Ballindamm. The two inner tracks are used by the U2 since 1973, are on the outsides of the track troughs for the line U4, which opened on November 29, 2012. Until the east adjoining station Hauptbahnhof Nord lie 0.8 kilometers distance; in the opposite direction is achieved after 0.6 km on the U2 - line metro station Gaensemarkt (opera).
