Justin Keating

Justin Keating ( born January 7, 1930 in Dublin, † December 31, 2009 ) was an Irish politician and journalist.

Life

Justin Keating was born in 1930 as the son of the painter Seán Keating in Dublin. He studied at University College Dublin ( UCD) and the University of London. After graduating he worked from 1955 to 1960 Lecturer of Anatomy at the UCD veterinary college and then from 1960 to 1965 Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Medicine at Trinity College, Dublin.

Raidió Teilifís Éireann When ( RTÉ ) Keating was responsible for two years for the agricultural posts, before he returned to Trinity College in 1967. For his series Telefís Feirme he won the 1966 Jacob 's Award.

Keating was married and had three children. He was honorary president of the Humanist Association of Ireland.

Policy

Keating was first elected in the elections in 1969 in the constituency of Dublin North County for the Irish Labour Party in the Dáil Éireann. As a Teachta Dala he was in the cabinet of Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave 1973-1977 Minister for Industry and Commerce

In 1973 he was appointed Member of the European Parliament and thus belonged to the first Irish delegation. In the elections of 1977 Keating lost his seat in the Dáil, but was able to win a seat in Seanad Éireann. He remained until 1981, Senator. In 1984, he was from February to July again for a short time to the European Parliament, when he nachrückte there for Séamus Pattison.
