Richard Bruton

Richard Bruton (Irish Risteard de Briotún, born March 15, 1953 in Dublin) is an Irish Fine Gael politician.

Biography

Bruton studied post-school economics and worked as an economist in the public service after graduation.

His political career began as a contestant in 1981 with the election as a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ), in which he represented the group of agriculture until 1982. He was then elected in 1982 for the first time MPs ( Teachta Dala ) and represents there after seven elections since the constituency of Dublin North Central.

On September 23, 1986, he was nominated for Industry and Commerce of Taoiseach (Prime Minister ) Garret FitzGerald to the Minister of State in the Ministry and took with it until the end of FitzGerald's term of office on 10 March 1987 as a " junior ministers " his first government post.

After re- election victory of Fine Gael, he was appointed Minister for Enterprise and Employment by his brother, Prime Minister John Bruton, on 15 December 1994 and held that office until the end of Bruton's term of office on 26 June 1997.

After the disastrous performance of the Fine Gael in the general election in 2002 and the resignation of party leader Michael Noonan, he ran to his successor, but lost Enda Kenny. Instead, however, he not only became Deputy Leader of the Fine Gael, but at the same time opposition spokesman for finance policy. As part of a reorganization of the party leadership, he lost this office June 14, 2010, but was appointed by the party leader Enda Kenny to the opposition spokesman on businesses, jobs and economic planning.

Since March 9, 2011 Bruton is again Irish Economy Minister (Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation ).
